Leadership minor
Designed to complement all undergraduate majors, the leadership minor requires completion of requirements in five areas. Completed components of the minor are documented in an individualized student portfolio and approved by the program director in consultation with the Leadership Education and Service Committee.
Intended Student Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- demonstrate knowledge of leadership theories and models to inform practice (Cognitive).
- communicate application, analysis, and reflection of leadership experiences (Behavioral).
- engage in action and practice civic engagement as a platform for leadership development (Affective).
- articulate reflective analyses on where they find meaning and motivation for leadership.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Initiative-Description of at least one significant experience where the student has identified a community need and developed a plan or course of action to address that need. Experience may be curricular, co-curricular, or independent of the college.
2. Academic Performance -Six courses are required to satisfy the academic performance component

3. Difference/Diversity -At least one significant experience in a cultural environment different from the student’s own. Experience may be curricular, co-curricular, or independent of the college.
4. Group Work -A project that demonstrates the capacity to work effectively within a group toward a common goal that serves a community interest. Experience may be curricular, co-curricular, or independent of the college.
5. Service -Design and implementation of an effective service project. Experience may be curricular, co-curricular, or independent of the college.
6. Portfolio-Presentation of a portfolio documenting the student’s achievements for review by the Leadership Education and Service Committee and approved by the program director. In addition to the components noted above, each portfolio also includes an executive summary designed to provide the student the opportunity to reflect on his or her leadership education while a student at Wartburg.

Graduate Programs
Graduate Leadership Certificate
The graduate leadership certificate is designed as an online program that includes two brief three-day, online intensive experiences at the start and end of the program.
Completion Requirements
- Achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all courses being applied towards the Graduate Leadership Certificate.
- Take at least 3.75 credits from Wartburg offerings after admission to the Graduate Leadership Certificate.
- Courses completed more than seven years prior to the awarding of the degree cannot be used towards the Graduate Leadership Certificate
Leadership, M.A.
The Master of Arts in Leadership is intended to provide a deep foundation of knowledge about leadership as an organic and systematic process that emerges from each individual in a unique fashion. Students in the Master of Arts in Leadership will complete ten course credits. The culmination of the master’s degree will be a capstone experience in which students enhance their leadership portfolios, implement a project within an organizational context, and demonstrate learning through a written product that integrates knowledge from the courses.
Intended Student Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- express a personal leadership identity, maximizing on personal effectiveness.
- analyze complex environments and the need for change.
- evaluate the role innovation and entrepreneurship play in organizational effectiveness within economic, social, and political environments.
- develop knowledge, skills, and commitments that foster stewardship of human and material resources.
- translate the leadership development process through the creation of a portfolio reflective of the leadership journey.
- articulate reflective analyses on what it means to live a life of purpose, distinguishing a life of success and a life of significance.
Completion Requirements
- Achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all courses being applied towards the Master of Arts in Leadership.
- Take at least 6.25 credits from Wartburg offerings after admission to the Master of Arts in Leadership program.
- Courses completed more than seven years prior to the awarding of the degree cannot be used towards the Master of Arts in Leadership.
